A call to pray for President Obama’s conversion
Editor’s note: The following letter has been edited. Paragraphs deleted referred to ACORN, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and a Moscow plot to put communists in Catholic seminaries. Paragraphs directly related to the election of Barack Obama, abortion and Catholic support are printed as sent.
To the editor:
Now that the political dust has settled, the citizens of America have elected the first African American president for the next four years. No doubt, Obama is the most pro-abortion president ever elected. He promised Planned Parenthood “the first thing I will do as president is to sign the Freedom of Choice Act” known as F.O.C.A. If this becomes law, it will strike down nearly every law ever passed to protect innocent human life.
The saddest fact of all is that Catholics voted over 50 percent for Obama. Whether the Catholic majority realizes it or not, they have put their stamp of approval on unrestricted abortion on demand. Understand the Catholic Church opposes this policy. I pray and hope that many Catholics did not realize these moral issues when voting a straight democratic ticket. The Evangelicals put Catholics to shame when it comes to voting against pro-abortion politicians. If what I read is true, some of our future income tax may be used to pay for abortions. Patrick Buchanan said before the election, that if Obama was elected “the greatest setback for the future of unborn babies is the fact that two Supreme Court appointments will be made and they will be pro-abortion jurists.”
. . .
One of the main concerns at the Baltimore meeting [of the U.S. Catholic bishops] was Obama’s pro-abortion policy and rightly so. It may be difficult to change Obama’s mind because he is likely to say that 50 percent of Catholics voted for him. He also chose Joe Biden as his running mate, a Catholic who shares his pro-abortion policy 100 percent. Obama proudly chose another Catholic, Tom Daschle, to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Daschle not only supports Obama’s pro-abortion policy, he has served as a fundraiser for the National Abortion Rights Action League. A quiet revolution is happening right before our eyes in America and within the Catholic Church. The Mystical Body of Christ is experiencing the same treatment as the physical body of Christ did over 2,000 years ago. Instead of being nailed to a cross, they are being flushed down a drain.
. . .
One cannot help but wonder when you read in a Catholic paper that the Archbishop of Atlanta proclaimed Obama’s election as a “great step forward for humanity.” Let us not curse the darkness but rather pray for Obama’s conversion with the devotion that St. Augustine’s mother prayed for her son’s conversion. We can do this by following Mary’s peace plan from Fatima. Pray the rosary daily, do penance, and make reparation with her promise echoing in our hearts: “In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”
