DAR winners
Congratulations to Christ the King eighth grade students Alex Owen and Clay Becker for earning first and second place respectively in this year’s Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest. They will receive their awards on Feb. 15 at the annual George Washington Tea, according to Sandy Lasher, principal.
Penny Blitz
“We are having our Penny Blitz,” reports Jeanne Heltzel, principal at Holy Family School, Jasper, “with proceeds going to Haiti.”
School Reach
“We are excited about a new way to communicate with our school families,” said Michelle Priar, principal at St. James School, Haubstadt.
“We will soon be implementing a program called School Reach. This program will automatically send out a phone call and/or an email to alert parents of important information.
“For example, if we would need to release early due to bad weather School Reach would send a phone call/email to all of our parents giving them that message.
“We’re looking forward to implementing this program so that our parents can get up to date information as quickly as possible.”
Quest for a million pennies
The seventh grade at Holy Redeemer, Evansville, has taken on a challenge to “quest for a million pennies. All of the pennies collected will be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital which is where Sean Witsoe is.
He is the four year old brother of Holy Redeemer students Connor, Anna and Ian. “The Witsoes have had to move to Memphis while Sean is in treatment for a cancerous brain tumor,” said Marianne Webster, principal. “Sean also has a twin brother Matthew.”
Money back
“Have you ever wondered what we get out of collecting all of those labels?” asks Principal Angie Johnson in the newsletter at Resurrection School, Evansville.
“Just this week, we received a check for $1,941.20, and this was only for the General Mills box tops that we collected last year! We also had 21 basketballs delivered this week, which we purchased with our Campbell’s labels. Every little bit helps,” she wrote, noting that if families “can only send in a box top or two, you are helping us earn money for technology and recess equipment!”
$600 grant
St. Theresa School in Evansville has received a $600 Target Field Trip Grant, according to Theresa Berendes, principal.
“Peggy Epley was awarded the Target Field Trip Grant, designed to help bring learning to life for students. Mrs. Epley was selected from more than 25,000 applicants from across the country.
“St. Theresa School plans to use the grant to take the entire school to Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in May. This will continue our celebration of Lincoln’s 200th birthday.”
