A Day on the Hill
Three seniors at Memorial High School in Evansville have been nominated to participate in the National Abstin-ence Education Association sponsored Day on the Hill event in Washington, D.C. March 10 to 12. They are Kaleb Noblett, Lindsey Phipps and Alex Young.
The student who is chosen will represent The PEERS Project, an abstinence and healthy relationships program currently in nine area high schools, and will join hundreds of other youth from across the country to educate congressional and senatorial staff on the benefits of this type of sexuality education for teens.

Art project in Washington
“The expansion of the Wash-ington Catholic Art Program has been appreciated by students across all grade levels,” said David Memmer, principal.
“Mrs. [Peggy] Taylor’s efforts have been appreciated even more! Thanks to her efforts, Washington Catholic has been awarded 2009 Arts in Education grant in the amount of $6,769 for an interdisciplinary art project.”
The project will be known as the “Historic and Contemporary Textiles as Celebration.” It will involve WC fourth graders as well as middle and high school fiber arts students. “The project involves a study of nineteenth century textiles, including quilts and rugs, and the work of contemporary fiber ar-tists.”
Student workshops will be led by two nationally-known Indiana textile artists, Phil Beaver and Marilyn Oehler.
Students will hand-dye wool fabric and hand-paint on cotton fabrics which will be woven into banners. The banner project aligns with Indiana education standards in art, social studies, and interdisciplinary learning, and will help students appreciate and create beautiful examples of textile art. Also, students will document their art experiences by means of scrapbooks, journals and photos.
