National Merit
Tad Dickel, principal at Mater Dei High School, Evansville, said, “I am pleased to announce that Mater Dei has two National Merit Finalists: Andrew Ritter and Mason Blankenship.
Coach of the year
Congratulations to Angie Lensing at Memorial High School, Evansville, for being selected as the Indiana Coaches Girls Sports Association soccer coach of the year.
National spotlight
In April, Marian Educational Outreach’s Project Outreach will be highlighted at the Na-tional Catholic Education Asso-ciation convention in California.
Marianne Webster, principal at Holy Redeemer School, and Marty Craig, principal at Corpus Christi School, both in Evansville, along with MEO director Beverly Williamson, will present “Teaching to the Beat of a Different Drummer,” which explains the development of Project Outreach in the Diocese of Evansville.
The goal of Project Outreach is to provide differentiated instructional training to every teacher in every school in the Diocese of Evansville.
Science Fair at Westside Catholic
Kate Whitaker is the grand prize winner of the Science Fair at Westside Catholic School, Evansville.
Eighth grade winners include Matt Will, Kate Whitaker, first; Heather Wolf, Katelyn Klingler, second; Suzan Fields, Cooper Mayer, third; Nathan Drury, Kendra Cullum, Keaton Oliver, honorable mention.
Seventh grade winners include Ben Garrett, first; Josh Pierre, Megan Steinkamp, second; Levi Massey, Alex Eger, third; Alex Reising, Kelsey Kempf, Hannah Truong, Kelly Lehman, honorable mention.
Free dress
Students at St. James School, Haubstadt, purchased $201 in free dress passes. The money will given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantry.
“We sold free dress passes that students could redeem during the month of February,” said Michelle Priar, principal. “This was a carry over from the activity we had scheduled during Catholic Schools Week.”
Gold medals
Students at Washington Cath-olic Middle School, Washington, who won gold medals at the Indiana Solo and Ensemble Contest held at the University of Evansville (piano/vocal contest) and Southridge High School in Huntingburg (instrumental contest) include Megan LaGrange, Steven Holland, Rachel May, Hannah Emmons, Sam Baker, Elizabeth Brochin, Bethany Dlu-gosz, Hilary Fields and Ellie Jarrett.
