Brother Hugo Stippler to celebrate golden anniversary

On March 19 Brother Hugo Stippler will celebrate his golden anniversary of making final vows in the Order of the Hospitaller Brothers of St. John of God.

He was born in Evansville, the son of Walter V. and Amelia S. Stippler, and made his final vows on the Feast of St. Joseph on March 19, 1959.

“He felt called to this order because of the nursing aspect,” said his sister Margaret Ballard. “He had a great reverence for the founder, St. John of God, and strives to imitate him in his care for the sick and anyone in need.”

He served mostly in Los Angeles and Ojai, both in California. The Ojai Center, where he currently serves, has terminally-ill patients and lay people who live in community with the Brothers and staff.

Brother Hugo has family members who are living in southern Indiana, including a brother, Arthur Stippler, and four sisters, Ruth Rice, Lillian MacGregor, Bertha Julian and Margaret Ballard.
