Haubstadt auction on April 19 to feature seventh century cross

By MARY ANN HUGHES (Message staff writer)

“Sts. Peter and Paul is gearing up for our auction again this year,” reports parishioner Mary May, “and we have a very unusual item that has been donated to us by John M. Lawrence.

“He has donated a seventh century Christian woman’s cross with chain, found in Syria. The value is $3,500. There will be a letter of authenticity provided with the cross.”

This is the sixth year for the Haubstadt auction, developed thanks to the leadership of late pastor Father Francis Schroer-ing.

The auction will be held April 19 in the Old Haubstadt Gym. The silent auction is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon, and the live auction from 1 to 5 p.m. There are over 600 auction items, including 24 quilts, trip and golf packages, Brickyard tickets and Cardinal and Cubs tickets.

Father Tony Ernst, pastor, and Father Gary Kaiser, associate pastor, have also made donations which include

  • A day of golfing with Father Tony;
  • Dinner for eight prepared by Father Gary with clean-up by Father Tony;
  • A day of boating with Father Tony and Father Gary;
  • Pitching lessons from Father Tony;
  • Wii party with Father Tony and Father Gary;
  • Five hand-made rosaries by Father Gary.

An auction preview and kick-off dinner will be held April 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Old Haubstadt Gym.

The auction is open to the public.
