Bishop’s actions ‘bring clarity, not confusion’
Editor’s note: The following letter was addressed directly to Bishop Gettelfinger.
We applaud you for your strong voice and example of withdrawing your presence from the VCRTL Banquet. The Church cannot send confusing messages. Every time Rome takes an unpopular stand, the hierarchy is criticized as being old, out of touch and suppressive of people’s “rights.” The Church is trying nothing more than to stay faithful to its teachings. We are glad to see you took the unpopular stand and we support you fully because your actions bring clarity, not confusion.
How unsettling it must be for people to seek the truth when we have major political figures like Steele, Biden and Pelosi saying they are Catholic but not supporting the Church’s teachings. Worse yet they choose to ignore the Church’s wisdom and appear uninterested in fully discovering and drawing closer to the foundation of that wisdom.
Again, we acknowledge positively your courage and decisiveness in the matter of Mr. Steele and the banquet.
