The Guadalupe Center in Huntingburg, in collaboration with Youth First, is offering a Strengthening Families Program in Spanish, according to Benedictine Sister Karen Durliat, diocesan director of the Spanish-speaking ministry.
“This seven-week program is intended to help youth, ages 10 to 14, and their families build on family strengths, while learning new skills. Youth learn how to make healthy choices, and parents are given suggestions for dealing with child-parent conflict.
María Ramírez from Hunting-burg is facilitating the parents’ class; Lorena López from Dale, the youth class, and Teodolinda Abarca from Jasper, the family class. Mirna Dubón is coordinating the food. All were trained as facilitators at a workshop in Jasper.
The program is sponsored by Youth First, Inc. and made possible by a grant from the Wel-born Baptist Foundation. This is the first time that the program has been offered in Spanish in the Dubois County area.
