School Notebook

Target grant

“The grant writing committee received exciting news,” writes Vickie Wannemuehler, principal at St. Matthew School, Mount Vernon. “Lisa Russell applied for a Target Field Trip grant which would allow our kindergarten through grade five students to tour the Children’s Museum in Evansville this spring. We found out that we will receive a Target grant! The $800 grant will pay for the cost of buses and admission.”

Happy Birthday!

Artwork by Megan Tepool, a student at St. James School, Haubstadt, has been chosen by the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra to be shown during its annual youth concert. “This is a big honor for Megan and St. James School,” writes Michelle Priar, principal.

Choral singing

Six junior high students at Holy Family School, Jasper, participated in the annual Circle the State with Song music festival in Vincennes. They include Brooke Epple, Annie Getzin, Makala Osterman, Chelsea Roe, Jessica Schwenk and Candace Wein-zapfel.

St. Jude’s

“Thanks to all who raised money in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital service project,” writes Chad Schnieders, principal at Precious Blood School, Jasper. “The math-a-thon was a huge success! The totals are $5,894.40 collected with 113 students participating. That is the most money our school has ever collected in one year.”

DAR

Sarah Lasher, a senior at Memorial High School, Evansville, was honored at the Capt. Henry Vanderburgh Chapter of the National Society DAR’s George Washington tea. She was selected by the faculty to receive the Good Citizen award.

Math bowl

The Good Shepherd School math bowl team received fourth place in the diocesan math bowl. Sixth grade members include James Best, Bailey Gilles, Melissa Mueller, Kate Webster and Manisha Wohlford. Fifth grade members include Mary Blanke, Marcus Gahagen, Matt Gleason, Zackary Hayes, Samantha Puckett, Elizabeth Purdue and Cole Rahman.
