Easter at the Woods
The Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods have announced special services for Holy Week. All services are open to the public in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and include:
- Saturday: Easter Vigil; Holy Night of Easter, 8 p.m.
- Easter Sunday: Eucharistic Liturgy, 11 a.m.
Brunch is available at Providence Center from 9:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. EDT on Sunday. Items include carved prime rib, shrimp cocktail and made-to-order pasta bar in addition to the regular brunch items. Cost is $17.76 for adults, $15.89 for seniors, $9.58 for youths, and children under age 5 are free.

Sister Helen Prejean to speak in Terre Haute
Internationally known author and advocate of abolishing capital punishment Sister Helen Prejean will be the keynote speaker for the eighth annual Human Rights Day program April 14 in Terre Haute.
Most of the day’s events will be offered in the Hulman Student Union Building on the Indiana State University campus. There is no charge to attend or participate in any of the programs. Sister Helen will speak at 9:30 a.m. in Dede I and will be available for book signing after her presentation. She is being hosted by the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and the Human Rights Day steering committee.
The theme for this year’s program is “The Right to an Adequate Standard of Living,” based on Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Monte Cassino pilgrimages to be held in May
St. Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to hon-or the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.
The pilgrimages begin with an opening hymn and a short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The service ends with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a hymn. Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:
- May 3: Brother Matthew Mattingly, “Mary, Ark of the Covenant”
- May 10: Father Noël Mueller, “Mary, Mother of the Poor”
- May 17: Brother John Glasenapp, “Mary, Mother of the Church”
- May 24: Father Sean Hoppe, “Mary, Believer of God’s Promise”
- May 31: Brother Christian Raab, “Mary and the Mystery of Pentecost”
Services begin at 2 p.m. CDT. The public is invited. The Monte Cassino Shrine is located one mile east of the Archabbey on State High-way 62 in St. Meinrad.
Diversity and end-of-life care
St. Mary’s Medical Center and its Palliative Care Program will host a national teleconference on Diversity and End-of-Life Care on Wednesday, April 29th from 12:30 - 3:30 pm in the hospital’s Amphitheater.
The 16th Annual “Living with Grief” Tele-conference is presented by the Hospice Foundation of America, a not-for-profit organization which acts as an advocate for the hospice concept of care through ongoing programs of professional education, public information and research on issues relating to illness, loss, grief and bereavement.
Each year this award-winning, televised broadcast is seen in more than 2,000 communities across North America, reaching an estimated live audience of 150,000 people. The program gives a wide variety of professionals — including doctors, nurses, funeral directors, psychologists, educators, social workers and bereavement counselors — the opportunity to share and exchange ideas.

Heritage Days planned
The Dubois County Museum will sponsor Spring Heritage Days, a family event, on Sat-urday and Sunday, April 18 and 19 from 1-4 p.m. at the museum. Visitors can learn about old-time chores on the farm.
Some events planned are sheep shearing with the Arnold Mehringer family, wool carding and spinning with Pat Burroughs, beekeeping with Beekeeper Jerry Apple, making shingles, washing clothes on wash boards, and making soap. Hands-on opportunities for learning these bygone chores will be offered.
