Around the Diocese
Happy birthday!
Father Angelo Quadrini, a Son of Divine Providence and superior at Providence Home in Jasper, celebrates his birthday May 8.
Anniversaries of ordination
Father Tony Ernst, director of newly ordained priests and pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Haubstadt, Holy Cross Church, Fort Branch, St. Bernard Church, Snake Run, and St. John Church, Daylight, was ordained to the priesthood May 9, 1998.
Deacon anniversary
Deacon Richard Preske of St. Boniface Church, Evansville, was ordained May 9, 1981.
Hispanic Youth Group
“We started our youth group on Feb. 5,” writes Abraham Brown in the Nativity Church newsletter, “and we have continued meeting every Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
“During these discussions we have had discussions about the things we can do to help: ourselves (being better Catholics), our community (helping those in need) and our parish (being better stewards of our talents and our youth).
“We have planned fun activities that can help us integrate more youth to our community and in the same way promote healthy opportunities to socialize and exercise.
“We have also dedicated special time to reflect on our Faith through the Gospel of the coming Sunday.”
He said the numbers “have been increasing rapidly. We started our group with nine members and now we have averaged 21 participants.”
Steve Dabrowski, diocesan director of youth and young adult ministry, visited with the group and “offered his support and encouraged the group to keep working hard. He also shared his enthusiasm as he expressed how happy he was to see the Latino youth being so active in the parish.”
State conference
Alyssa Duncan will represent North Knox and the Bicknell area at the 2009 National Young Leaders State Conference in May. She is a parishioner at St. Philip Neri Church, Bicknell.
Perpetual Adoration
“I’ve received a few articles about the benefits of Perpetual Adoration,” writes Father Ray Brenner in the bulletin at St. Joseph Church in Jasper.
“I do not need to be convinced of the benefits. As for starting a separate adoration at St. Joseph, it is available at the Providence Home and there is difficulty in filling hours there.
“Check it out there. We often have a slim crowd here when we have adoration every Thursday or when we have all night adoration connected with First Friday of the month.”
