Workshop topic: Jesus’ real presence in the Eucharist
A two-hour workshop on the topic of Jesus’ real presence in the Eucharist will be presented in a variety of locations throughout the Diocese of Evansville.
“Here is a great opportunity for all adults in our diocese to strengthen this important teaching of our faith,” said Benedictine Sister Geraldine Hedinger, diocesan director of the Office for Adult Formation.
The formation session is free of charge.”
Father Abraham Orapankal of Renew International will present the workshops which will focus on these questions: What are the ways Christ makes Himself present to us at Mass? How does the Eucharist help us to understand the pain and joy of everyday life? How does celebrating the Eucharist strengthen our Catholic identity?

Deacon Formation class begins in September

Mass for Brother Patrick O’Brien
The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand will have a Mass for the intention of Brother Patrick O’Brien on Saturday, May 2, at 8:25 a.m. EDT in the monastery church. The public is welcome to attend.
Brother Patrick served as a gift officer in the Mission Advancement Office of the Sisters of St. Benedict from 2006 to 2009. He died on March 30. He had been a De La Salle Christian Brother for 51 years.
Celebrating
“We are celebrating the new parish facility this Saturday with a brief blessing, a Ministry Fair and dinner after the 5:30 p.m. Mass,” said Deacon Ed Wilkerson, pastoral life coordinator at Good Shepherd Church in Evansville.
“It is a large open space beautifully decorated with seating for over 500 people at tables. It has a large stage with special lighting area for plays and musicals. There is state of the art sound system throughout the facility. It contains a nice concession area. We are now having bingo in the hall on Sunday and Tuesday. Attendance has been great.”
News from St. Mary’s Hospital
- St. Mary’s Hospital announces that Dave Novak has accepted the position of Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Genetics Center effective immediately.
- Karen Holt will resume the position of Director at the practices of Partners in Wom-en’s Health and Dr. Donna Sweets, OB/GYN, effective immediately.

St. Mary’s has won the eighteenth annual Critical Care Challenge which is sponsored by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. It’s an opportunity for area hospitals and schools of nursing to demonstrate their knowledge in the critical care arena. Each hospital and school forms teams of six people, who then compete to answer the most questions correctly. The winning team gets to display the traveling trophy.
