Physician of the year
Dr. Mark Cobb has been named Physician of the Year at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. Dr. Cobb is a neurosurgeon at Tri-State Neurosurgical Incorporated and is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Cobb is a 1990 graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. He completed his residency at the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in Little Rock, Ark., and served his fellowship at the Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn.
Elected to office
Dr. Joan Temmerman, medical director of the St. Mary’s Weight Management Center in Evansville, was recently elected to the office of Secretary/Treasurer of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine (ABBM). The appointment took place at the 2009 Eastern Regional Obesity Conference in Charleston, South Carolina
IDs required
Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper will begin asking patients for photo identification (ID) as required by the new Identity Theft Rules, a.k.a. “Red Flag” regulations, enacted recently by the Federal Trade Commission. These new regulations require financial institutions and creditors such as hospitals and other health care providers to develop identity theft prevention procedures.
As of May 1, every patient is being asked to provide photo identification upon each visit to the hospital.
Employees honored
Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center honored its employees at the annual employee service awards banquet on April 24. Special recognition was given to 140 employees who have reached milestone anniversaries during the last year and have collectively given 1,740 years of dedicated service to Memorial Hospital.
Among honorees were Doris Jacob, Behavioral Health Services, and Alice Kluesner, Oncology Services, honored for 45 years of service.
Little Company of Mary Sister Rene Cunningham, Family Pal-liative Care, was honored for 40 years of service.
