Project Acceptance

Good Shepherd School teachers Jenny Masterson and Lynn Scheessele have received a Rotary grant for $490 to support the “Project Acceptance” Disability Awareness project.

Math-a-thon

Students at Precious Blood School, Jasper, have contrib-uted $5,854.40 to St. Jude Child-ren’s Research Hospital thanks to their math-a-thon efforts. “Our total was the largest amount ever contributed from our school,” said Chad Schnieders, principal.

Rotary grants

“St. Theresa School was awarded two Rotary grants,” reports Theresa Berendes, principal.

“Karen Waller received a $400 grant for the ‘Be a S.T.A.R.’ project. This grant will purchase books with an emphasis on recycling and recycling bins for a paper recycling program in each classroom.

“Diane Alvey and Jenny Cope-land were awarded a $1,485 Rotary grant for the ‘Touch Math’ project which is a multi-sensory program that engages students of all abilities and learning styles.

“TouchMath has been proven to raise math test scores in classrooms around the world.”

DAR

Flaget Elementary School student David Evans was recently honored as a runner-up in the annual DAR American History contest. He wrote an essay on the Gettysburg Address.

Arbor Day

Max Meuth, a third grader at Holy Rosary School, Evansville, earned an honorable mention in the Arbor Day essay contest sponsored by Operation City Beautiful of Evansville.

Kiwanis

Students at Mater Dei High School, Evansville, who are Kiwanis award winners include

  • Ezekiel Zenthoefer, wrestling;
  • Jamie Tekoppel, girls basketball;
  • Matt Dickerson, boys basketball;
  • Katelyn Wargel, girls swimming;
  • Matt Schenk, boys swimming.
