Mater Dei Friends and Alumni give $60,000 for tuition help

Families considering sending a student to Mater Dei High School in Evansville may have an easier choice to make next year. More tuition assistance is available.

The Mater Dei Friends and Alumni Association (MDFAA) announced May 8 that the association members had made a commitment of $60,000 to the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) for tuition assistance for the 2009-2010 school year.

This contribution, funded through Mater Dei Annual Fund gifts and MDFAA fundraisers, will allow CEF to provide additional assistance to Mater Dei families with students wanting to attend the Catholic high school. The gift is made in honor of Mater Dei celebrating 60 years of education and is an early kick-off to their year long celebration.

The Catholic Education Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organization whose sole purpose is to assist families in need with tuition support to attend Mater Dei or Reitz Memorial High Schools. On average, one out of every 10 students receives some form of tuition assistance to attend the Catholic high schools.

The $60,000 gift will directly benefit Mater Dei High School students.

CEF has already made a commitment of $300,000 in grants to be given to families to help pay tuition for students to attend either Mater Dei or Memorial High Schools.

The Mater Dei Friends and Alumni Association is an organization whose commitment is to the betterment of Mater Dei High School and its students. Each year, the Mater Dei Annual Fund and other MDFAA fundraisers help fund and build many projects and programs for Mater Dei. More than 9,000 alumni have graduated and gone on to strengthen this community and others around the Tri-State and beyond.

“I am incredibly thankful to Mater Dei’s alumni and friends for seeing the growing need (particularly in today’s economic environment) to provide tuition assistance to their students. Their generous response is indicative that they have not lost focus of the important mission of providing access to Mater Dei High School to all students, not only the ones that can afford it,” stated Bob Mehringer, CEF President.

“This is a great blessing for the Mater Dei community. Thank you to all of the people who support MDFAA through the Annual Fund and to CEF who administers the tuition assistance,” added Steve Schaefer, MDFAA President.
