Model classroom

A Reading Celebration Day was recently held for students in first grade at St. Philip School, Posey County.

Based on the results submitted from the Star Reading Test and the quizzes completed on Accelerated Reading, the first grade classroom of Eleanor Naas earned the title of “Model Classroom” after 12 weeks. The class continued efforts past the required 18 weeks to earn the Master Classroom award. Each child was recognized with a medal at a recent awards ceremony.

Dorothy Weinzapfel, the kindergarten teacher, was also recognized for her contirbutions at the kindergarten level. Maria Berry and Julie Whorl received certificates as reading assistants for working closely with the AR program.

Naas said, “It’s not about the AR points. It’s not about who can earn the most points the fastest, although some first graders will read a lot and fast! It’s about practicing reading a little each day. And by practicing a little each day, we become better readers!”
