Rivet’s science team finishes second in state
Rivet High School’s Academic Team participated in the state qualifying academic super bowl competition on April. Rivet High School in Vincennes competed in the state academic competition at Purdue University on May 9. The science team, coached by Matt Keller, finished second in the state in division 4, which consists of 63 schools in the state of Indiana.
The team consists of Brock Schutter, Wesley Cheek and Philip Halter.
Their coach, Matt Keller, said, “They did excellent.”
Rivet students participated in the state qualifying academic super bowl competition at Lincoln High School.
The science team finished first.
The math team, coached by Beverly Adams, consisted of students Philip Halter, Amber Fowler and Casandra Brock-smith. The math team finished first in its division.
Also finishing first was the social studies team coached by John Atkinson. The team consisted of Thomas Jones, Kelly Purcell, Elizabeth Street and Jeffrey Thomas.
The Fine Arts team coached by Jean Page finished second. Team members include Anjel-ica Carandang, Maria Matick, Elizabeth Street, Jeffrey Thomas and Erin Wehrheim.
The English team members were Wesley Cheek, Eric Johnson and K.P. Wesley. The interdisciplinary team, consisting of Wesley Cheek, Philip Halter, Thomas Jones and Erin Wehr-heim, also finished first.
The science team scored high enough to qualify for the state competition at Purdue Univer-sity on May 9.
Also, for the first time, special recognition was given to the top 10 teams in each enrollment class, based on the cumulative scores of all six rounds at the area competition. Rivet High School’s scores at the competition qualified them for this award.
