Dr. Phyllis BussingOakland City University has announced the appointment of Dr. Phyllis Bussing to the position of Dean of the School of Education.

The statement listed three central objectives of the university: “We desire to provide our students with: (1) the highest quality academic opportunities, (2) an educational setting where Christian ethics and morals are foremost, and (3) an educational system that provides students with the practical skills necessary to deliver successful instruction.

“With these goals in mind, Oakland City University welcomes Dr. Bussing and looks forward to providing our community and the nation with educational instructors that will help our children be successful in a global market.”

Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger commented in a congratulatory e-mail message, that Busssing’s “legacy for an expectation of excellence in our Catholic Schools both in the classroom and ad-ministration is a passion of hers. In her new role she will see to it that administrators and teachers in Catholic and public schools from Oakland City University will be expected to perform in the mode of excellence in an exemplary manner, as ‘mediocrity’ is a word unacceptable to her.”

He added, “We must be most grateful to Phyllis for both her persistence and perseverance. Our Catholic schools are so much better for Dr. Bussing’s direction and for her identifying and nurturing of competent administrators and teachers.”
