Huntingburg native celebrates anniversary
Franciscan Sister Jolinda Snyder, a former resident of Huntingburg, is celebrating her sixtieth Jubilee as a Hospital Sister of St. Francis in Springfield, Ill., on June 13.
She is the daughter of the late Sylvester and Adeline (Spayd) Snyder, a 1942 graduate of St. Mary’s School (Huntingburg) and a 1946 graduate of Huntingburg High School.
She made her profession on June 13, 1949, at the St. Francis Con-vent, Springfield. She holds a bachelor’s of science degree from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and has served as a pharmacist in hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She has also served in provincial administration, and at the Corporate Computer Center, the data center for the system’s 13 hospitals, where she is currently working part time.
Celebrating at Oldenburg
The Sisters of St. Francis will mark the 100th anniversary of the completion of their historic brick barn at Michaela Farm with a festive celebration June 20. The public is invited for a dinner and dance at the barn on the edge of Oldeburg, Ind.
The former dairy barn now houses a herd of beefalo. The sisters’ earth-friendly farm produces fruits, vegetables and herbs for the sisters with a surplus to send to market.

Nurse Hostetter honored
Ann Hostetter, a registered nurse, has been named the 2009 Little Company of Mary Award winner at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
Nominated by her co-workers for this annual award, Hostetter was recognized at the hospital’s employee service awards banquet in April for consistently exemplifying the hospital’s mission and core values including respect for human dignity, compassionate caring, stewardship, quality and justice.
Family Day at the Woods
Who doesn’t enjoy a hot dog, or some popcorn, or a cool drink during the summer time? Or outdoor fun and games, free concert music and an opportunity to visit an historic place?
All of that is available from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at St. Mary-of-the-Woods when the Sisters of Providence and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College host the second annual Family Day. The event is open to the public without charge.

‘Year for Priests’
WASHINGTON—The U.S. Bishops’ Secretariat for Clergy, Consecrated Life and Voca-tions has set up a Web site to mark the Year for Priests, to be celebrated June 19, 2009-June 19, 2010, throughout the world.
Pope Benedict XVI has designated the year-long celebration to begin on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a day of prayer for the sanctification of all priests. The pope also has designated St. John Vianney as the Universal Patron of All Priests on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the saint’s death. New chancellor in Indy
Annette “Mickey” Lentz has been apppointed chancellor of the Archdiocese of Indian-apolis by Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein.
She succeeds Suzanne Yakimchick, who retired last year.
Lentz will continue as interim executive director of the Secretariat for Catholic and Faith Formation until a new executive director is hired.
She has served the archdiocese as a teacher, principal, and administrator for 48 years.
Louisville Mandolin Orchestra to perform
The Louisville Mandolin Orchestra will give a free concert on Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m. CDT at St. Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, Ind.
The concert will be held in the Archabbey Church and is open to the public.
The program will include “Harp Concerto” by Handel, “Trio in D” by Cedronio, “Sonata #3” by Roeser, “Primi Racconti” by de Siati, “Benvenuto” by Kok, “Jota” by Granados and “Tafelmusik” by Wolki.
