Holy Cross Brother John Kuhn celebrates his sixtieth jubilee
On June 20, when the Brothers of Holy Cross honored 17 brothers who celebrated jubi-lees of religious vows, Brother John Kuhn was included.
He is one of three children of John and Clara Kuhn, born in Evansville in 1930. In 1948, after graduating from Memorial High School, he joined the Holy Cross Brothers.
He entered the Watertown, Wis., Juniorate program in June of 1948, and took his first vows on August 16, 1949 at St. Joseph Novitiate in Rolling Prairie, Ind.
He graduated with a degree in education from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, in 1952, and he earned his master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1962.
He earned two more master’s degrees, one from Spaulding University in Louisville, Ky., in Counselor Education in 1972, and another from Morehead State University, Morehead, Ky., in Studio Art in 1978.
Over the years Brother John taught at St. Edward High School, St. Anthony High School, Holy Trinity High School, Memorial High School, Bishop David High School, Bardstown Public School System, Sacred Heart Academy, Gilmour Academy and Holy Cross Junior College.
At Memorial High School he was principal and religious superior from 1964 to 68.
From 1970 to 73 he was superior of the religious at Bishop David High School. Between 1985 to 1995 he was director at the Solitude of St. Joseph, Notre Dame, Indiana.
Brother John also served as assistant and then archivist of the Brothers of Holy Cross from 1992 to 2005.
His hobbies are reading, listening to music, visiting art galleries, museums and cooking. He is active in the Holy Cross History Association. Brother is currently retired and active in the activities of Holy Cross Vill-age at Notre Dame, Ind.
