Holy Family School announces 2009 Young Christian awards
Two students at Holy Family School, Jasper, have received the 2009 Young Christian Award. They are Honor Hoffman and Harry Hutton.
The school staff evaluates eighth grade students on three criteria. The first is character and includes honesty, responsibility, fairness, courtesy, tolerance and co-operation. The second is service. What contributions has this student made to school, classmates, parish and community? What is the student’s attitude to-ward service? The third is leadership and can be interpreted based on consideration of leadership roles both in school and community. Following are the recipients of this year’s Young Christian Award.
- Honor was chosen as someone who clearly puts God as a priority in her life. She knows that as she leaves Holy Family School the most important thing she takes along is her faith. She strives to be responsible and patient. She says this about herself, “I want to be the best person I can be. I will serve the community by helping others and spreading my faith.”
- Harry exemplifies faith and respect daily. He believes that overall as an eighth grader he has learned leadership qualities that he will use in his future. He says this about the three things he wants most out of life: “I want to know that I helped make the world a better place when I leave it, I want to know more about God, and I want to impact people’s lives so they turn toward God. I want to succeed not only in school but in life.”
