People We Care About
Following is a feature in the Message, designed to help draw together the People of God in southwestern Indiana. Readers are invited to submit information about people who may benefit by some extra prayers and attention.
In a June 26 e-mail to Catholic Center staff, Tim McGuire, diocesan COO, writes, “Sister Geraldine has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Her treatment regimen will include chemotherapy. The doctor has encouraged Sister to maintain her normal routine.
“At this time, her only request is for us to keep her in our prayers. Please say an extra prayer for a colleague, friend and wonderful person.”
Benedictine Sister Geraldine Hedinger is the diocesan director for the Office for Adult Formation.
Prayers are requested for Lauren Larres, a former resident of Newburgh, who was recently in a head-on collision in Oklahoma. She attended St. John the Baptist School in Newburgh, and her mother, Teresa, was the director of the choir at St. John the Baptist Church for several years.
In an e-mail her parents, Teresa and Dave, write, “Lauren is still critical but stable and her condition includes traumatic brain injury, several broken ribs which punctured her left lung, blood and fluid in the thoracic cavity, lacerated spleen and liver, bruised kidneys, seven pelvic fractures and pelvic bleeding, crushed left hip, and broken left and right femurs. She is intubated and her bodily functions are being controlled by the trauma ICU staff for now so that she can get some rest and to allow for healing of her head injury.
“Once they can reduce the amount of pain killers and sedation so she can begin to function on her own, she will be subjected to multiple surgeries to repair the rest of her broken bones. She has a very long road ahead of her with probably months in the hospital and rehab after that. She’s a fighter and a strong, healthy young lady; it will be a challenge but God has not given her or us more than we can handle with His help.”
