Evening of Adoration

There will be an evening of Adoration on Friday, Aug. 14, beginning at 7:30 pm C.D.T. at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville, to pray for the 12 candidates to be ordained to the diaconate the following day. “This time of music and prayer is also a call for all people, especially the young, to recognize the presence of God among us and to be aware of His invitation to a life of fulfillment in following His will,” said Matt Miller, diocesan director of worship. Join the Diocesan Choir

Jeremy A. Korba is extending an invitation to join the Diocesan Choir and be a part of the upcoming diaconate ordination on Aug. 15.

“The Diocesan Choir is open to all singers and instrumentalists in the diocese. It is a rewarding and prayerful experience for musicians of all skill levels!”

John Angotti concert

“I know that this is a long way off, but I wanted to let everyone know that John Angotti and his band will be returning to St. John the Baptist Church after a one year break,” writes Mike Killebrew, director of Music/Liturgy at the Newburgh parish.

“So, save the date! Sunday, Dec. 6, in the parish church at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be available beginning October 10.”

St. Joseph, Vanderburgh County, student Olivia DeWeese writes in an e-mail, “You recently had an article about my denim drive in the Message. I wanted to thank you for your help; I received many jeans from those who saw the article!

“My jeans were shipped by an individual to Washington, D.C. very recently, and I am proud to say that our community collected over 500 pairs of jeans, just enough to insulate a home.”

Parish music survey

Over the next couple of months the diocesan Office of Worship will be conducting a survey to determine a more accurate listing of those providing music in parishes and the most common resources being use.

Many parishes in the Diocese of Evansville currently use the “Workbook for Lectors” and/

or “Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons and Weekdays.” The diocesan Office of Worship is now able to offer to parishes and institutions the opportunity to purchase them at a substantial discount. For additional information, contact the Office of Worship by July 31. The number is (800) 637-1731.

Daniel Messmer Memorial Walk

The Daniel Messmer Memorial Walk For Brain Aneurysm Awareness will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 12 at the University of Southern Indiana. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. in front of the Rice Library. Cara Messmer, a parishioner at St. Joseph Church, Evansville, said, “My family is organizing a charity event/walk for brain aneurysm awareness. This foundation is very dear to us because my father, Daniel Messmer, died suddenly of a brain aneurysm April 9,2007.”
