Brother Eugene Phillipp, Memorial teacher, dead at 71
Holy Cross Brother Eugene Phillipp, long time teacher at Memorial High School in Evansville, died Aug. 4 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. He was 71.
In a message forwarded by Memorial’s principal, Gwen Godsey, Brother Eugene issued a final statement Aug. 3.
“Due to circumstances out of my control . . . I will no longer be teaching at Memorial High School. I will miss each and everyone. Thank you for the kindness you have shown me over the past 48 years. You will always be remembered in my prayers.”
Visitation and a vigil service were scheduled for Brother Eugene on Aug. 5 and again on Aug. 6. A Mass was to be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Aug. 6 at St. Benedict Cathedral.
Vistitation was also scheduled at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8 at St. Joseph Chapel in South Bend, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. EDT, and internment at the Holy Cross Cemetery in South Bend.
