Be married and stay engaged

Historian to sign books

Franciscan Sister Annette Langenderfer, who formerly ministered at St. Theresa Church in Evansville, will return to St. Theresa on the weekend of Sept. 19 and 20 to sign copies of her book, “Little Less Than the Angels — Psalm 8.”

The book is an account of the work of the Franciscan Sisters from Tiffin, Ohio, in the diocese of San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico.

Churches to build homes

The Unity Build is a collaboration among 11 area churches working to promote unity among faiths. The build will begin on Sept. 12 and will end on Sept. 26. Habitat will need volunteers on Mondays through Saturdays during this period. Two shifts are available, 7 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m.

Habitat ranked high

Habitat for Humanity of Evansville has been ranked 23rd among 1,050 U.S. affiliates in house production. In 2008, Habitat built 31 homes thanks to donors, sponsors, volunteers and families.

Saints, sinners and a celebrity

Sacred Heart Church in Vincennes is celebrating its 100th anniversary, with a special Mass on Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. EDT.

“For the past 100 years, Sacred Heart parish has been a place for saints, sinners and at least one celebrity (Red Skelton),” said Father Jason Gries, pastor.

Caskets at the fair

Abbey Caskets, a work of St. Meinrad Archabbey, is exhibiting its wooden caskets and cremation urns at the Kentucky State Fair.

The fair runs through August 30 at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds in Louisville.

Abbey Caskets, located in Booth 31 in the south wing of Expo Hall, is featuring its handcrafted wooden caskets and cremation urns, which are produced in southern Indiana from native hardwoods, including oak, poplar, cherry and walnut.

Next week in the Message

People of Faith is a new feature in a familiar frame, appearing on the first Friday of every month. Steve Halbig, writing for the Message, will ask a series of questions of people of the diocese — some who have reached the “age of wisdom” and some who are younger. All will share stories of their faith.

Featured on Sept. 4 will be Betty Ann and Tom Titzer, members of St. Theresa Church in Evansville.
