New terms on St. Meinrad Alumni board
Seven members of the St. Meinrad Alumni Association Board of Directors are beginning terms:
• Darren Sroufe of Evansville, has been appointed to fill the term of Deacon Ron Stier, who died last August. Sroufe earned a bachelor’s degree in natural science from St. Mein-rad College and a master of theological studies degree from St. Meinrad School of Theology. He earned a doctorate from Ashwood University and a Ph.D. in law enforcement administration from Madison University.
A former police chief for DuPont, Ohio, Sroufe has 15 years of service on the Evansville Police Department, serving as chaplain and holding the rank of sergeant. He is the current commander of the Records Section and a crisis negotiation team professional. In 1999, he was the Evansville Police Department Officer of the Year. He was honored with the American Legion Citation of Exemplary Service in 2000.
He holds membership in the International Conference of Police Chaplains, the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of St. John. A member of St. Benedict Cathedral Parish, he and his wife Jan have three children. He previously served on the Alumni Board from 1995-2001.
• Deacon Kenneth Johanning of Jasper was ordained for the Diocese of Evansville in 2005 and serves at St. Anthony Church in St. Anthony and Sacred Heart Parish in Schnellville. He earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s of education from the University of Southern Indiana.
He taught at North Harrison High School for 13 years. He now teaches integrated chem-istry and physics at Greater Jasper High School. He and his wife Gladys have six children.
• Thomas L. Norris lives in Louisville. His wife Patricia is an alumna of St. Meinrad sum-mer session. They have four children.
• Father Thomas Boyer is a priest of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. He earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Meinrad College in 1964 and his master of divinity degree from St. Meinrad School of Theology in 1968.
• Father Frank Torres is a priest of the Diocese of Gary, and an alumnus of St. Meinrad School of Theology.
• Ann Tully earned a master of theological studies degree from St. Meinrad School of Theology in 2003. She serves in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Tribunal as judge instructor/assessor.
• Deacon George C. Stonikinis Jr. is a member of St. Meinrad’s first class of permanent deacons ordained for the Diocese of Richmond, Va., in 2003.
Fall festival at St. Pius in Troy
St. Pius Church in Troy, Ind., will have its annual Fall Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13. On the menu is its famous soup by the bowl and gallon, fried chicken or roast beef dinners, hamburgers, Polish sausage, ice cream and homemade pie. Entertainment by the band CROSSWIND, a giant yard sale and flea market, games for adults and children and raffles. Serving begins at 11 a.m. CDT. Please bring containers for carry-out soup.
Hole-y-One Golf Scramble Sept. 18
The Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods have announced plans for their seventh annual Hole-y-One Golf Scramble Sept. 18 at Hulman Links Golf Course near Terre Haute. Hulman Links is the number-one rated municipal course in Indiana.
Cost is $300 per foursome or $75 per person. The fee includes green fees, cart, lunch and beverages throughout the event. Proceeds from the scramble will help support the congregation’s ministries and sponsored institutions.

Historian to sign books
Franciscan Sister Annette Langenderfer, who formerly ministered at St. Theresa Church in Evansville, will return to St. Theresa on the weekend of Sept. 19 and 20 to sign copies of her book, “Little Less Than the Angels — Psalm 8.”
The book is an account of the work of the Franciscan Sisters from Tiffin, Ohio, in the diocese of San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico.
