People We Care About
Following is a feature in the Message, designed to help draw together the People of God in southwestern Indiana. Readers are invited to submit information about people who may benefit by some extra prayers and attention.
• Providence Sister Catherine Alberta Kunkler, 87, died Sept. 1 at St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was 87.
She was born in 1922 in St. Anthony, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Brescher) Kunkler.
She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence in 1941, and made her final vows in 1949.
Of her 68 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered as a cook in convents in Indiana and New Hampshire as well as serving as director of food service at Fatima Retreat House in Indianapolis.
She worked in housekeeping for 24 years, and she worked in outpatient aid in the sisters’ health care facility.
Survivors include her sister, Edna Knebel of Jasper.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Sept. 4 at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
