The meeting will begin with prayer, the Liturgy of the Hours, and close with refreshments. The meeting will be held in the Holy Family Room in St. Benedict Hall, next to the parking lot. The public is welcome.

Homiletics lecture scheduled

St. Meinrad School of Theology will present the 19th annual John S. and Virginia Marten Lecture in Homiletics on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. (CDT) in the Newman Theater.

In his talk, “Lighting a Fire: Preaching as Teaching and Proclamation,” the Rev. Dr. Paul Scott Wilson will explain how preachers can become bogged down in teaching the biblical text or how parishioners should live their lives. His talk will focus on how a larger purpose of preaching can easily be overlooked: to proclaim the gospel.

He will also conduct a workshop on Wednesday, October 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both the lecture and the workshop are free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged.

Wilson is professor of homiletics at Emmanuel College in the University of Toronto and the Toronto School of Theology, where he has taught for 27 years. He is an ordained minister of the United Church of Canada and has served several churches.
