People of Faith
BY STEVE HALBIG
This is the third in a series on the new deacons of the diocese. They were ordained August 15 at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville.
Deacon Christian Borowiecki has been appointed to diaconal service at his home parish, Holy Rosary in Evansville.
Borowiecki, 46, is a retail food inspector for the Vanderburgh County Health Department.
He and his wife, Mary Jo, have “one angel,” a girl 8 years old.
A native of Chicago, Borowiecki has a bachelor’s degree in community health from Western Kentucky University and a pastoral ministry certificate from Brescia University in Owensboro.
What prompted you to pursue this ministry? Just want to serve the Church and Christ anyway I can.
Tell us a few things about yourself: Family man; enjoys sports; likes riding his bicycle which he calls “good prayer time;” grilling; growing roses. “I’m a pretty simple man.”
Who has been the biggest influence in your life? My father and father-in-law, both deceased. Owe them both a lot for the example they set. Even today, they serve as inspiration.
What are your goals as a deacon? Really just to be a good servant and helper. Listen to the people. A good homilist.
Do you have any favorite books that you would recommend to others? Books by St. Ignatius of Loyola and John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body.” It’s just so rich. And the Bible.
Do you have any routines in your spiritual life that you would recommend to others? Upon waking up, I say a morning prayer “Thank you Lord for this morning and the opportunity to serve.” Scripture is part of the day also, as is reflection before going to bed. What did I do well today? Where did I fall short.
