Why Catholic fall season begins
Parishes are preparing for the fall season of Why Catholic, focusing on the second half of the book on the Sacraments. Sign-up Sundays are now in process. Sunday, Sept. 27 is Prayer Commitment Sunday. During the weeks of October 5 to November 13, the small faith sharing groups will meet at various locations in the parishes and homes.
Why Catholic is an adult formation program which opens up the four pillars of the Catholic Catechism of the Catholic Church. The four pillars are the creed, sacraments, life in Christ (the moral life) and prayer. Each of the four books has 12 sessions within a year’s time.
A faith formation workshop and a closing retreat accompany each book. The faith formation session and the retreat are open to all in the diocese, not just those in small groups. These two sessions are two hours long and are held in various locations in the diocese.
The retreat this year is entitled “Eucharist: Bread for the Journey of Life.” It will focus on the real sacramental presence of Jesus and how the love for the Eucharist helps us as individuals and community persevere on the journey of faith. This re-treat will be held during the week of November 15-19, 2009. The retreat is led by Sr. Honora Nolty, OP, a dynamic presenter from the office of RENEW International.
Call your parish office for specific information on the small group meeting times and the retreat. The only cost for you is the cost of the book. The retreat is free of charge.
