Sisters of St. Benedict unveil new visuals, new media

On the 142nd anniversary of their founding, the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand are displaying a new look and us-ing new ways to reach the public.

August 20 marked the public launch of the sisters’ new visual identity with a new logo, tagline, mark and colors. And the sisters are inviting the public to become “fans” on their Facebook page and to follow them on Twitter. The username for both is FerdinandOSB; OSB stands for Order of St. Benedict. At least 20 sisters, ranging in age from 27 to 90, are on Facebook.

New member at monastery

The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand received a new member into their monastic community on Sunday, August 23. During a simple ceremony be-fore Morning Prayer, Alexandra Larsen, 28, was officially accepted into the postulancy, the first stage of incorporation into the religious community.

Larsen, a native of Madison, Wis., will en-ter an eight-month program of initial formation.

Scouts to sell popcorn

Scouts from the Buffalo Trace Council, Boy Scouts of America, kick off their annual Trails End popcorn sale Sept. 26.

The council serves a 15-county territory in Southwest Indiana.

Meet Alpacas at open houses

Aris Farm of Clinton, Lookout Farm Alpacas of Terre Haute and White Violet Farm Alpacas at St. Mary-of-the-Woods will join alpaca breeders across the United States and Canada Sept. 26-27 for the observance of the third annual National Alpaca Farm Days.

Aris Farm will host an open house including finger foods 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27. Lookout Farm Alpacas will host an open house 1-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday Sept. 26-27. White Violet Farm Alpacas will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Visitors to all three farms will be able to meet the alpacas and talk with those who care for the alpacas. All activities are without charge. Those attending all three open houses will have their name entered in a drawing for a basket of alpaca socks, gloves, yarn and alpaca manure, called Alpaca Gold.

Lincoln artifacts on display

A priceless private collection of Abraham Lincoln and Civil War artifacts will be on display at the Dubois County Museum on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3.

On Friday, Oct. 2, Dr. Joseph Matheu will be at the museum from 7 to 9 p.m. Wine and cheese will be served. Tickets will be $35 each for museum members, $50 each for non-members. Reservations are required.

The exhibit will also be on display on Sat-urday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $8 each. For more information call 812-634-7733 or e-mail jdkluemper@psci.net.

First Saturday Devotions at Ubelhor Ridge

The monthly day of prayer and fellowship is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Joseph Ubelhor Farm located on State Road 62, 10 minutes east of St. Meinrad, between State Highways 145 and 37 in Perry County.

Right to Life organizing Life Chain

The annual Life Chain is Sunday, Oct. 4, at Brinkers Jewelers on Green River Road and Lloyd Expressway in Evansville, starting with a rally at 12:30 p.m.

Landscape paintings at St. Meinrad

The St. Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery features an exhibit of landscape paintings by Philadelphia artist Clay Johnson, through Oct. 26. Johnson is a classic landscape painter, most known for his large paintings of Valley Forge and the Schuylkill River.
