National Merit Semifinalists and Commended Students recognized
Memorial High School Principal Gwen Godsey has announced that Caitlyn Hammac, from Holy Rosary Church, and Andrew Kasha, from Christ the King Church, have been named semifinalists in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Competition.
Caitlyn is the daughter of Rashelle and Chadwick Hammack and Andrew is the son of Edwin and Rebecca Kasha. They are among 16,000 students throughout the nation that are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors.
James Blubaugh, from Holy Rosary Church, Robert Shoemaker, from Holy Name Church in Henderson, and William Sievern from St. Benedict Cathedral have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. Each earned a minimum score of a 200 total index based on their critical reading, math and writing scores. James “Alex” is the son of Roseanne and James Blubaugh. Robert “Eric” is the son of Betty and Ed Shoemaker and William “Will” is the son of Luann and William Seivern.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional scholastic abilities. Although they will not continue in the 2009 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top 3 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQTR).
