Around the Diocese

Food for those who are hungry

“Last fall, there was great discussion by one of our ‘Why Catholic’ groups about a soup kitchen for those who are hungry,” writes Father John Boeg-lin in the parish newsletter at Holy Family Church, Jasper.

“I was asked for advice and I said that we needed to work as a community if this is really going to happen. And I said that it needs to take place near the local food bank.

“Now a group of nine Protes-tant churches and the local Catholic churches banded to-gether to create the Dubois County Community Meals. We served our first meal in early May.

“Now we are serving a meal on the second and fourth Satur-days of the month. Also, each Wednesday evening a meal is being offered. The group is serving 800 to 1,000 meals a month at the St. Vincent de Paul Ozanam Hall across from the Food Bank.”
