Indiana Catholic Conference urges action
“None of the bills retains longstanding current policies against abortion funding or abortion coverage mandates, and none fully protects conscience rights in health care,” according to a statement from the Indiana Catholic Conference. “Moreover, the bills must ensure that legal immigrants have equitable access to comprehensive, affordable and timely health care coverage,” continued the statement from the ICC, issued by the executive director, Glenn Tebbe.
“There is still time to reform health care in the right way,” Tebbe said, but he added, “It is truly unfortunate that much-needed health care reform that protects the life, dignity and conscience rights of all could slip away because of failure to remedy these serious problems.”
He urged Catholics to contact their represenatives and senators.
