Coats for the homeless

The parish bulletin at St. Boniface Church, Evansville, notes, “As the evening temperatures get cooler, we‘re reminded of our homeless population. Area shelters are full to capacity, leaving an ever-growing number of people to find whatever warmth they can on our city streets and highways. The average age of Evansville‘s homeless population is age eight. A little unsettling, huh?

“For the past four years, St. Boniface has partnered with other local churches in collecting used winter coats for distribution via soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Some schools have even made use of them for low income students who don‘t have a winter coat to wear.

Large boxes have been placed at both entrances of the church to collect your used winter-wear. All sizes are needed — from adult to infant. Your old coat can make a world of difference to someone in need this winter. Scarves and gloves are a welcome addition if you are no longer using them. Clean out your closets and help those less fortunate.”

When both halves of the mural are completed, they will be sent to Egypt where they will be part of 12 miles of murals from around the world.
