By PAUL R. LEINGANG (Message editor)
The Catholic Education Foundation will make $432,000 available next year for tuition assistance to families with students at Mater Dei and Memorial high schools in Evansville. That was the report given at the annual board of directors meeting Oct. 29.
The total available is an increase over the grants provided in the current academic year totalling $420,590. Grants ranged from $600 to $4,100 and assisted 72 Mater Dei students and 97 Memorial students.
The current awards have pushed the total above the $4 million mark, since the program began in 1971. During that span of time, 4,514 students have received grants-in-aid.
In each of several recent years, a gift has also been awarded to Marian Educational Outreach for $11,200.
The amount of tuition assistance has risen dramatically in recent years: $137,425 in 2006-2007, $212,600 in 2007-2008, $295,000 in 2008-2009, and $420,590 in 2009-2010.
The total for the current year and next year includes $145,000 from the two alumni associations. CEF members and volunteers have a goal of raising $167,000 from contributors during the next fund-raising campaign.
The agenda included elections. Charles Reising and Jim Will, Jr., were elected to three year terms on the board. Larry Schultheis and Jerry Ziemer were approved for three year terms on the advisory council.
Officers elected for their third one-year term are Robert Mehr-inger, president; Daniel Nie-meier, vice president, and Beth Clark, secretary-treasurer.
