Celebrating special anniversaries

Five Benedictine sisters celebrated special anniversaries of their religious profession on Sunday, October 25, at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand. Sisters Helen Maurer, Benita Biever, and Dolorita Libs observed the 70th anniversary of their monastic profession and Sisters Victoria Pohl and Benedicta Clauss marked their 60th anniversary. These sisters have served a total of 330 years in ministries in Indiana, Louisiana, Virginia, North Carolina, Italy, and Guatemala.

Thank you letter received for communications campaign

A contribution of $258.58 has been posted to the 2009 Collection for the Catholic Commun-ication Campaign from the Diocese of Evansville. A letter acknowledging the contribution was sent October 26 from the Office of Na-tional Collections.

Thanks given for ‘Undie Sunday’ collection

Parishioners at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville recently filled two large boxes with socks and underwear for the Evansville Christian Life Center.

“We have been out of these items for several weeks,” said Shannon Kelsey at the ECLC Clothing Bank. “I pray the Lord bless each person who contributed.

The St. Benedict Christian Family Movement coordinates the annual “Undie Sunday” campaign.

Youth, families benefit from Welborn grants

Welborn Baptist Foundation, Inc. of Evansville has awarded a total of 51 grants to Tri-State not-for-profit organizations, totaling approximately $2.79 million.

The grants were announced Oct. 27. They included $31,766 to St. Philip School in Posey County, for its ongoing health initiative.

Youth First, Inc. School Social Work Services received a grant for $310,000. The grant allows Youth First to continue to employ up to 10 social workers for 16 to 18 public, parochial and private schools in Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Posey counties.

St. Vincent’s Day Care Center received $20,000 for Development Office Expansion.

Hospitality and Outreach For Latin Amer-icans Inc. received $15,000 for HOLA SALUD! or Hello Health!

Nativity Catholic Church received $15,000 for the Juan Diego Latino Center to improve the delivery of health services and provide bilingual information to 1,000 Latino infants, adolescents and parents.

Sister Jean Madeline Peake to be honored

A reception honoring Ursuline Sister Jean Madeline Peake, celebrating her 75th year of religious life, will take place Sunday, Nov. 22 at St. Bartholomew Church, 2040 Buechel Bank Road, Louisville, Ky., following Mass at 11 a.m. EST.
