Update on Rome Pilgrimage in 2010

Editor’s note: The following article was submitted by Matt Miller, diocesan director of the Office of Worship.

Plans continue to come together for the diocesan pilgrimage to Italy, featuring Bishop Gettelfinger and the Diocesan Choir from September 21-30, 2010. As the date approaches and more details come to light, it promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved.

A change in tour companies has led to an increase in personal customer service and perks for the trip itself, with a slight decrease in cost. The people at Faith in Travel have worked to put together a pilgrimage that not only meets the needs of the people of the diocese but also draws on their own expertise of what can and should be done to make this pilgrimage a memorable experience.

Highlights of the 10-day pilgrimage include:

  • visits to Venice, Padua, Florence, Sienna, Assisi and Rome
  • two concerts offered by our own diocesan choir and schola in beautiful Italian venues
  • opportunities for private and public Masses in some of the great churches and basilicas of Italy
  • singing for the Pope at his Wednesday public audience

The Office of Worship will be hosting informational sessions on the following dates to help build excitement for the pilgrimage, offer some fun and fellowship for those attending, and answer questions:

  • Dec. 3, 5:30 p.m. — St. Benedict Cathedral
  • Dec. 6, 1 p.m. — Precious Blood, Jasper
  • Dec. 12, 10 a.m. — Catholic Center, Evansville

The cost for the pilgrimage is now $3,895. This includes airfare out of Nashville, accommodations in 3- and 4-star hotels, breakfast daily and six other special Italian meals along the way, bus service from Evansville to Nashville, and much more. Over 30 people have al-ready registered and space is limited, so register soon.

For more information, please plan on attending one of the informational sessions being offered or contact Matt Miller, director of the Office of Worship, at (800) 637-1731, or Jeremy Korba, director of the Diocesan Choir and Schola, at (812) 425-3369, or you may email tour@evdio.org.
