On the calendar: Praying for priests

Year for Priests logoThe Catholic Schools Office has published a calendar for the Year of the Priest. Students and staff are committed to pray for a priest each day, and all parishioners are invited to participate.

  • Monday, November 23: Father Robert Deig
    • Father Robert Deig was or-dained June 3, 1950. During almost six decades of priesthood he has served parishes and schools; he taught at Mater Dei High School and was superintendent at Memorial High School, both in Evansville. He was Director of the Holy Year in the diocese in 1975.
      He is a native of Posey County who completed his priesthood studies at St. Meinrad Seminary.
      Father Deig was named pastor emeritus of St. John the Evangelist Church, Daylight, in 2008. He resides at Little Sisters of the Poor in Evansville.
  • Tuesday, November 24: Father Firmus Dick
    • Father Firmus Dick was ordained April 4, 1954. He served at various parishes in the diocese, including St. Bernard in Rockport from 1985 to 1988, and Sacred Heart in Schnellville from 1988 until his retirement in 1998.
      Father Dick is a native of Evansville, who studied for the priesthood at St. Meinrad Semi-nary and at Innsbruck, Austria.
  • Wednesday, November 25: Father Bill Dietsch
    • Father Bill Dietsch was ordained Dec. 18, 1971. He taught at Mater Dei High School in Evansville and served various parishes in the diocese, including Mary, Help of Chrisitians in Mariah Hill and St. John Chrysostom in New Boston. He re-tired in October 2008.
      Father Dietsch was baptized at St. Bernard Church in Snake Run and confirmed at St. Wendel Church in St. Wendel. His priestly studies were at St. Mary’s College at St. Mary, Ky., and at North American College in Rome.
