On the calendar: Praying for priests

Year for Priests logoThe Catholic Schools Office has published a calendar for the Year of the Priest. Students and staff are committed to pray for a priest each day, and all parishioners are invited to participate.

  • Monday, November 30: Father Donald Dilger
    • Father Donald Dilger, 78, is a native of Mariah Hill. He studied at St. Meinrad and at Innsbruck, Austria, and was ordained March 15, 1959. After graduate studies at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C., Father Dilger was name headmaster and then rector of Magister Noster Latin School in Evansville.
      He pursued biblical studies at the University of Notre Dame in the 1970s. Father Dilger, a col-umnist for the Message since 1987, was appointed Teacher of Scripture for the diocese in 1988. He continues to write and teach since his retirement in 1996.
  • Tuesday, December 1: Father Jack Durchholz
    • Father Jack Durchholz, 52, is a native of Evansville who studied at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis., and was ordained March 18, 1995.
      Along with his parish ministry, he has served as chaplain for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department and as chaplain for Teens Encounter Christ. He is currently the pastor of St. Ferdinand Church in Ferdinand.
  • Wednesday, December 2: Father Adolph Egloff
    • Father Adolph M. Egloff, 94, retired in 1977 and resides in his native Vincennes. He was ordained May 14, 1940, four years before the Diocese of Evansville was established. He studied at St. Meinrad Seminary.
      Father Egloff served parishes in Vincennes, Evansville, New Albany, Cannelburg and Princeton.
  • Thursday, December 3: Father Jim Endress
    • Father Jim Endress, 75, was born in Evansville. He studied at St. Meinrad and at Innsbruck, Austria, and was ordained April 3, 1960.
      After serving as an assistant pastor in Evansville and Loogootee, he was released by the diocese to serve as a military chaplain in 1965.
      Following a serious injury while serving in the military he returned to the diocese in 1982.
      His ministry has included work in the Tribunal, sacramental assistance and involvement with Cursillo and TEC. He officially retired in 2004.
