People We Care About

Following is a feature in the Message, designed to help draw together the People of God in southwestern Indiana. Readers are invited to submit information about people who may benefit by some extra prayers and attention.


Daughter of Charity Sister Jane Hamilton, 81, died Dec. 5 in Evansville.

She completed her education in St. Louis and entered the Daughters of Charity in 1946. She was given the name Sister Laboure.

Her first assignment was to St. Joseph School in Natchez, Miss.. In 1953 she was sent to St. Vincent DePaul School in San Francisco, Calif. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1955, and she continued her teaching ministry at St. Vincent School, Perryville, Mo., and St. Matthias School in St. Louis.

Sister Jane was missioned to St. Leo Center in San Antonio, Texas, in 1973 and became a pastoral minister. In 1975, she received a master’s degree in religious education from the University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, and was assigned to minister at Cotulla, Texas; Scottsbluff, Neb. and Pawhuska, Okla. Sister was sent to St. Mary’s Hospital/Health Center in St. Louis as a CPE student in 1984. She then served in pastoral care at St. Paul’s Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. In 1994, Sister Jane was assigned to University Hospice Hospital in New Orleans, La.  Sister went to Anna House in Bridgeton, Mo., in 2000 to assist the Senior Sisters. In July 2005, she came to Seton Residence, where she continued her Ministry of Prayer.

Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated December 7 in the chapel at Seton Residence.
