St. Theresa School to implement year-round school calendar

The first semester of the 2009-2010 school year may just be coming to a close, but administrators for St. Theresa School in Evansville are already planning for the 2010-2011 school year, according to a release from the principal, Theresa Berendes, and the pastoral life coordinator, Deacon David Seibert.

In mid-November, parents and parishioners were notified that an enhanced school calendar would be introduced next fall. St. Theresa students will be heading back to classes on July 26, two weeks prior to other area schools under the new year-round calendar, and will continue attending classes until mid-June.

“We are very excited about the new opportunities this calendar will allow us to offer our students and staff,” said Berendes.

“We will follow a year-round school calendar, which will offer four intersession breaks. While the year-round school calendar will increase retention, reduce re-teaching, and increase student motivation, the four intersession breaks throughout the school year will provide educational opportunities that go above and beyond our normal curriculum.”

St. Theresa is rated with an “Exemplary” status from the Indiana Department of Educa-tion. Berendes and Deacon Seibert believe this rating, coupled with new educational offerings gives St. Theresa students the opportunity to excel to new heights while setting the school apart from other schools in the diocese.

St. Theresa School is located at 600 Herndon Drive in Evansville and offers classes for Pre-K through the eighth grade.
