Around the Diocese

Christmas gifts

“So many people send me cards and gifts for Christmas,” writes Father Henry Kuyken-dall in the bulletin at Nativity Church, Evansville.

“I always appreciated them, especially the brownies, gift certificates and money. But 10 years ago I decided I had almost everything I needed so I began to select my favorite charity and I asked all my friends to send money to them.

“This year my favorite charity is St. John the Apostle on Bellemeade. They need a new roof for their rectory and it will cost $8,000. So to help me have a Merry Christmas, give a donation to St. John’s.”

Kavanaugh Kourt

“Last Saturday was a ‘red letter day’ for one of St. Peter’s parishioners, Albert Kavanaugh,” writes Father Jim Koressel, pastor at the Montgomery parish and at All Saints Church, Cannelburg.

“The gym floor at Barr-Reeve was named ‘Kavanaugh Kourt’ in his honor. This was in recognition of his many years of service as a teacher, but especially for his years of service for non compensatory work.

“We are proud of Albert’s work and the recognition accorded to him. He has certainly deserved it.”
