Changes in the works at Evansville Catholic High Schools

Evansville’s two Catholic high schools will have a new structure of leadership in the coming year, with an individual board of trustees at each school and a common coordinating council to handle interparochial matters.

Information about the plans was posted on the websites of both Mater Dei and Memorial High School, www.materdeiwildcats.com and www.reitzmemorial.org, dated Dec. 10.

An executive director will serve as the leader at each school. Each school will also have a principal, a business manager/controller and an Office of Institutional Advancement, all reporting to the executive director.

Members of the boards will be appointed by Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger. The names of the board members and of the school staff members are expected to be announced early in 2010.

The schools have operated under a number of different governance models over the many years of their existence. Since the late 1990s, Mater Dei and Memorial have been under the governance of a single Board of Trustees, the Evansville Catholic Interparochial High School Board, with a single president.

That structure will continue through the end of the current, 2009-2010 academic year. The new model will be in place prior to the beginning of the 2010-11 school year.

The new boards will work in conjunction with the Evansville Catholic Interparochial High School Board in the early months, with governance of each school transferred completely to the individual boards during June 2010. The new coordinating council will also be in place at that time.
