Pro-life, but not going to Washington? Join others in Bloomington
By PAUL R. LEINGANG (Message editor)
A “Walk for Life” is scheduled in Bloomington, Inc., on Friday, Jan. 22, in what organizers say is planned “in reparation for 37 years of legalized murder of our innocents.”
Tracy Burch, a parishioner at St. John Church in Loogootee, is contacting pro-life suporters in the diocese.
“Bloomington is close,” Burch said, “a lot closer than Washington, D.C.” And “as our American Bishops have declared Jan. 22 a day of prayer and fasting and penance, this event should certainly fulfill their request!”
An annual March for Life is held in Washington, D.C, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion. Burch wants to invite anyone who can’t go to Washington to come to Bloomington, “to let all Christians unite in our respect for life, beg God for forgiveness and make atonement for the sin of abortion through our sacrifices and prayers.”
The Bloomington march will begin with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, then travel along Third Street to the campus of Indiana University and stop at Planned Parenthood’s abortion clinic.
“Our non-Catholic friends may park near the church and join the procession’s beginning around 10:40 a.m.,” Burch said.
The procession will travel about two and one-half miles to the abortion clinic, where participants will pray, and then return to the church.
Burch says those unable to walk may remain behind in the church to pray, or they may drive to the abortion clinic, pray and wait for the group to arrive.
Additionally, a car will follow the procession to pick up anyone unable to complete the entire distance.
Participants are asked to bring tasteful signs and pictures. “These — and our demeanor, should reflect holiness and love,” Burch said.
