Year for Priests
On the calendar: Praying for priests

In conjunction with the Catholic Schools Office, the Message is publishing a calendar for the Year for Priests. Students and staff are committed to pray for a priest each day, and all parishioners are invited to participate.
- Monday, Jan. 18: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Tuesday, Jan. 19: Msgr. Kenneth R. Knapp

Msgr. Ken Knapp, 72, was ordained March 30, 1963. His ministry has included leadership positions in Catholic education, Catholic Charities, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development in the diocese, the Center for Human Development in Washington, D.C. and the diocesan chancery both for Bishop Francis R. Shea and Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger.
In 1984, he was named by Bishop Shea as vicar general, chancellor and moderator of the curia. He has also held parish and deanery positions — in-cluding Dean of the Evansville East Deanery from 1996 to 2008.
Today, Msgr. Knapp serves as vicar general, a position he has held since 1984, and pastor of Christ the King Church in Evansville since 1995.
Msgr. Knapp is a native of Haubstadt who studied at St. Meinrad and at Innsbruck, Austria.

- Wednesday, Jan. 20: Msgr. Charles Koch

Msgr. Charles Koch, 72, was ordained March 30, 1963.
Along with various parish service, Msgr. Koch held positions in the diocesan chancery throughout his years in active ministry.
He was judicial vicar (head of the diocesan tribunal) from 1973 until 2002. He continued to serve as a judge for the tribunal until his retirement in 2004.
Msgr. Koch is a native of Evansville who studied at St. Meinrad and at Innsbruck, Aus-tria, before ordination, and then for graduate studies in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

- Thursday, Jan. 21: Father James Koressel

Father James Koressel, 66, was ordained May 17, 1969. He is an Evansville native who completed priestly studies at St. Meinrad.
His assignments have included parishes in Jasper, Washington, Vincennes, Jasonville, Bloomfield, Linton, Princeton and Boonville.
Since 2002, Father Koressel has been pastor of St, Peter Church in Montgomery and All Saints Church in Cannelburg. He was previously Dean of the Princeton Deanery while serving as pastor of St. Joseph Church in Princeton, and currently serves as Dean of the Washington Deanery.
Father Koressel’s early assignments included teaching at Washington Catholic High School in Washington.

Father James Koressel, 66, was ordained May 17, 1969. He is an Evansville native who completed priestly studies at St. Meinrad.

Father Phil Kreilein, 61, was ordained June 2, 1974. He is a native of Jasper who spent his seminary years at St. Meinrad.
His early assignments included teaching at Mater Dei High School in Evansville and parish work at St. Simon Church in Washington, St. Wendel Church in St. Wendel and St. Anthony Church in Evansville.
In 1982, Father Kreilein was named pastor of St. Mary Church in Washington and teacher at Washingth Catholic High School. He has since served as pastor of Holy Cross Church in Fort Branch, St. Ferdinand Church in Ferdinand and St. Joseph Church in Jasper. Since 2002, he has been pastor of Resurrection Church in Evansville.

Father Phil Kreilein, 61, was ordained June 2, 1974. He is a native of Jasper who spent his seminary years at St. Meinrad.
