Brian Emmick enjoyed parish ministry at Holy Family Church

Seminarians for the Diocese of Evansville gathered for their annual retreat at Sarto Retreat House in Evansville in August 2009, prior to their return to formal seminary studies in the fall. Each participant filled out a brief questionnaire for this series.

Brian Emmick, 28, from St. John the Baptist Church in Newburgh, is in his second year of theology studies at St. Meinrad School of Theology.
He is an only child, the son of William and Candace Emmick of Evansville.

How did you spend your summer? This summer I was assigned to Holy Family Parish in Jasper.

What was the best thing (or maybe, what were the highlights) of your summer? The best thing about this summer was the people at Holy Family parish. I enjoyed getting to know them and will miss them. I enjoyed working with the Bosco youth group and TEC 71. I will miss the people of Jasper.

What are the courses/subject matter of the year ahead? I will be studying subjects such as moral theology and Christology in Second Theology.

Since this is the Year of the Priest, can you identify a priest who has had an influence on your life? What was that influence? There are too many priests to name them all without leaving someone out. I can say I have a huge debt to the priests of our diocese, the monks of St. Meinrad and various priests from elsewhere.
