Worth Mentioning

H1N1 vaccine available to general public

St. Mary’s Medical Center, in conjunction with the Vanderburgh County Health Department, will host an H1N1 vaccination clinic on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the St. Mary’s Manor Auditorium in Evansville. The clinic is free and open to the general public, regardless of county of residence.

Vaccines will be available in both injections and the nasal mist.  Visitors are asked to park in the parking garage next to the Manor.

Please dress appropriately in loose fitting garments or short sleeves to allow for timely immunizations. People who have been ill within 24 hours before the clinic should not attend. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or have a written note of authorization. It is highly recommended that children 9 years of age and younger receive a second (booster) H1N1 vaccination approximately one month (21 to 28 days) after the first H1N1 vaccination.

Dr. Ray Nicholson, chief medical officer for the Vanderburgh County Health Department, is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated. Dr. Nicholson warns that the H1N1 virus has the potential to come back even stronger during a second wave this winter. He says that by getting vaccinated, people can help protect themselves from the virus, while keeping others around them (family, friends and the community) safe.

Haiti envelopes available at no cost

Our Sunday Visitor is receiving an overwhelming response to its offer of free bulk envelopes for parish collections for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

Nearly 100,000 of the specially printed envelopes were ordered in less than two days after the offer was publicized Jan. 18.

The company also is offering at nominal cost two other products to spread the word about the need for relief — a prayer card and a four-page flier to educate parishioners about the situation Haiti is facing.

Parishes may order as many of the free bulk envelopes as needed for Haiti special collections by going to the OSV Web site (www.osv-offertory.com) or by contacting a sales representative at (800) 348-2886.
