2010 March for Life: Participants return and reflect

This was Theresa Scheller’s first March for Life. She’s a junior at Mater Dei High School in Evansville.

She said she decided to make the 20-hour bus ride from Evansville to Washington, D.C., because she heard it was a “really good experience.”

Her group attended the Mass and youth rally at the Verizon Center before the march began. “It was really cool,” she said citing the “upbeat music” and a “whole stadium participating in the Mass. It was a great way to start the day.”

The experience “made me realize how important an issue it is.”

Clare Scheller is Theresa’s sister, and a senior at Mater Dei. She said, “It was neat to share the experience with her.”

Clare said she “had no idea” what to expect at the march, and was surprised to find “so many people there. There were thousands and thousands of people from all around the country. It was awesome. I had no idea that that many people went to this.”

All of the young participants, “give me hope for my generation — that we could actually make a difference.”

She added, “It was a life-changing experience for me” noting that she came away from the trip “more firm in my belief that abortion is wrong.” Attending the youth rally and Mass with 20,000 other pro-lifers “makes me realize how many people share my belief.”
