Worth Mentioning

Habitat project underway

Habitat for Humanity of Evansville has begun demolishing vacant warehouses on Shadewood Avenue in Evansville to make way for a housing development called Shadewood Place that will include 19 Habitat homes and four market-rate homes built by Bussing Construction.

Estimated cost for the demolition, infrastructure, site development and construction, excluding the market-rate homes, is $1.8 million. Funding for this development is being made possible through grants from the City of Evansville and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis and through 15 Habitat house sponsorships. Construction is expected to begin in June.

Shadewood Place is part of a larger effort among many organizations to revitalize the Glenwood neighborhood. For the past two years, Habitat has been working closely with the Glenwood Neighborhood Association and other community partners to revitalize the neighborhood, bordered by U.S. 41, Riverside Drive and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

For more information on this development or to sponsor a Habitat home, please call the Hab-itat office at (812) 423-5623. Visit www.evans-villehabitat.org

A ‘Parenting Pointer’

Lent is not just about “giving up” but also humbling oneself in the service of others. Even children can serve by cleaning up, letting someone else go first, even smiling instead of smirking. Being a willing servant is different from being a slave. “The last will be first, and the first will be last.” (Mt. 20:16)

Catholicity is topic of March 9 lecture

Father Robert Schreiter, C.P.P.S., the Vatican Council II Professor of Theology at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, will deliver the annual Thomas Lecture on Philosophy and Theology at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad. The lecture will be held on Tuesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. CDT in the Newman Conference Center.

His talk is titled “Forms of Catholicity in a Time of Polarization.” According to Father Schreiter, “In a time of polarization both within and outside the Catholic Church, we need to look to resources within our tradition to address issues and create spaces for discussion. One such resource is the concept of Catholicity. This lecture will explore two concepts of Catholicity and how these might be brought to bear on the challenges facing the Church today.”

The lecture is free and open to the public.
